The Project and the Process
‘BiEU, Building in Europe’, was a Comenius School Partnership from 2001-2004, building a guest house in Germany. It had a huge impact at the participating schools, among teachers and students of different construction lines – and among guidance counsellors.
The house is still a live guidance material for students – and what was supposed to be a school partnership turned out to be the set off for career planning and guidance.

The ‘BBB, Leonardo transfer of innovation Project’ is a further development of the guidance aspect, building upon the results and inspiration from the BiEU house. This time the focus is not on the building and construction, but the outcome of the project will be targeted guidance counsellors at European centres for vocational guidance and counselling, supporting career clarification, and improving the quality and innovation of guidance material.
In addition, BBB has produced various teaching material for the construction lines, targeted teachers and students in bridge building and the early stages of the building and construction education and training at vocational and technical colleges.
The planning and building process of a small house at EUC in Holbaek in Audebo has been followed by students from Multimedia and Construction lines, and turned into three very different guidance and teaching materials:
A multimedia production,
Building a house in cyber space, a web site as well as the actual planning and construction of the house, photos, interviews, interactive 3D tools etc. The process has been followed by web cam – and it has been possible to see the house grow, step by step – and follow the process, the tasks of the craftsmen, through photos and video interviews etc on the web and in e-newsletters.
Guidance counsellors may have an up-to-date tool with a variety of information and professional, ethical and high quality material. Students have the opportunity to design/change and develop their own ideas about house construction. The cooperation and interdependence between various lines of building and construction is visualized. It shows the many possibilities of work placements abroad – and the mobility of the modern labour market.

A 1:20 model of the house
To
visualize the total process of construction and building of a house, the tasks of craftsmen and their interdependence. This house model is a tool that can be used for early stages of VET and the bridge building process.
Tool box with material samples
To
support the pedagogical introduction to the model materials have been collected during the working process of the Audebo house from bricks and insulation to sanitary appliances etc and a collection of cards showing a photo of the material and the names in four languages. Cards can be printed from the web site/Teachers’ Corner.

This project should enhance the attractiveness of vocational education and training, the outcome is an innovative tool in guidance and counselling and the early stages of the construction and multimedia fields. At the same time the project has increased the European cooperation between schools and other stakeholders of VET and it promotes both teacher and student cooperation and mobility.
The partners of the consortium were vocational colleges, construction and multimedia departments, social partners, both employers’ and employees’ organizations, guidance and counselling centres to ensure the high quality, the different view angles and interests.
